dot1x authentication verification on Windows

Recently my colleagues and I had case to test and implement dot1x authentication. To cut a long story, we needed a method to easily very is NIC authenticated or not. The solution is surprisingly simple. You don’t need additional application, you just need BAT file.

So create .bat file and name it however you like. Put inside following command line in order to verify dot1x authentication:

netsh lan show inteface pause

Necessarily add switch pause in order to keep command prompt window opened.
Double click you .bat file. You will receive following output in case The Wired AutoConfig Service (dot3svc) is not running:

The Wired AutoConfig Service (dot3svc) is not running.

In case you started mentioned service and you configured it correctly you will receive output with NIC settings and in the last line information information about successful authentication:

There is 1 interface on the system:

Name : Local Area Connection
Description : Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM
GUID : SOME DATA
Physical Address : SOME ADDRESS
State : Connected. Authentication succeeded.

Inother case output will information about unsuccessful authentication process.

I hope this tutorial was helpful to you and feel free to comment or contribute.
