Enabling and disabling Ubuntu desktop firewall

First, there is no GUI by default installed for Ubuntu desktop firewall. Second, and more important, Linux OS, thus Ubuntu too, is much more secure than Windows. Reason is that Ubuntu don`t open ports by default. Manage firewall on Ubuntu without GUI is not so easy when you are beginner.

You can simply enable disable firewall by typing following syntax in terminal:

  • For enabling

$#sudo ufw enable

  • For disabling

$#sudo ufw disable

Please remember that Ubuntu firewall is disabled by default.

I`ll stop here with CLI configuration of firewall. Since we are talking about Ubuntu desktop I`ll switch to firewall GUI.

First you have to install GUI for firewall. Go to Terminal and type following syntax followed with administrator password

$#sudo apt-get install gufw

When it`s installed go to System Settings and you will see new icon as is on slide 1.
