Install Cisco ASA in GNS3

For those of you who are new in the world of computer networks, I`ll show how to install Cisco ASA in GNS3. I think that you don`t have alternative in learning Cisco security certification, but to use GNS3. OK, you can always buy some old Cisco ASA but I think it`s waste of money.

First download ASA operating system. Extract it somewhere for further usage.

Now, start GNS 3 and go to Edit –> Preferences. Select QEMU VMs and select New (Slide 1.).

Select ASA 8.4 in QEMU VM type and select Next (Slide 2).

Now give your VM name as I did ASA and again select Next (Slide 3).

On QEMU binary and memory page select QEMU system and define amount of RAM memory. I left everything by default and it is my recommendation (Slide 4). Select Next.

Now, on Linux boot specific settings select files as I did for Initial RAM disk and Kernel image from files you extract on beginning (Slide 5.). Select Finish.

Your ASA emulator will now appear in QEMU VM templates. Select Apply (Slide 6)

Now you can start your ASA and verify that every thing is OK with show version command (Slide 7).
