From my perspective, most important thing in computing infrastructure is ability to monitor your resources. Regardless of whether you are monitoring Linux or Microsoft servers, networking environment or some other resources, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is starting point. By default SNMP service on Windows is not installed, thus must be installed. In order to install SNMP service follow this tutorial.
I mean that you already have some monitoring tool in your infrastructure environment.
Start installation on Server Manager page. Select Add roles and features (Slide 1).
On next page, by default is already selected option that you need (Role-based or feature-based installation), thus you can proceed by selecting next (Slide 2.).
On next page select server on which you want to install SNMP service and select next (Slide 3.).
Wizard is guiding you to Server Roles page, but SNMP service is feature, not role, thus you can skip this step and go to Features page. On Features page scroll down and select SNMP Service check box (Slide 4.). Select Next in order to proceed.
Verify that Include management tools check box is selected and select Add Feature (Slide 5.).
Confirm installation by selecting Install button (Slide 6.).
You can monitor installation process, that will less for a few minutes. Select Close on finished process (Slide 7). By default, installed service should be running after installation. You can verify this from services list (Slide 8.).
Now you have to configure SNMP service in order to be useful for polling proces that will be started from monitoring tool. Next tutorial will be about configuring SNMP service.
I hope that this tutorial was informative to you and thank you for visiting this web site.
