Synaptic – How to install and use

Synaptic is graphic package management tool for apt. Official information you can find on this location. With Synaptic you can easily manage installation, update or removal of applications and packages. In my opinion it`s one smashing tool!!!

First start Terminal (for this tutorial I`m using Ubuntu Linux, as usual) and type following command in order to install Synaptic.

sudo apt-get install synaptic

Confirm installation with Y and wait until is done.

Now I`ll show you usage of Synaptic. Select search button and type synaptic as I did on slide 1.

Type password to verify you credentials (Slide 2.).

Authentication is required for installation

Let`s say you want to install OpenJDK Java Runtime. Type in search bar Java and select installation (Slide 3) and mark package for installation.

In next step Synaptic will inform you about changes that will be performed when Java installation start. Mark them (Slide 4.) and apply all necessary changes (Slide 5.).

By applying changes you started your installation (Slide 6).

On the end just verify installed packages and changes applied (Slide 7.).
