Verify Cisco device uptime

This tutorial is for those who are not familiar with Cisco operating system or use it rarely and don`t know how to find out Cisco device uptime. The need to determine how long some device is up and functional comes when you have failure on part of network or in service or you had failure. In order to find out was your device responsible for failure you will check up time as a first step i troubleshooting.

Log in to your device and type following syntax from user mode:

TestDevice#show version

Among other information, in the middle of syntax output you will notice following Information:

TestDevice uptime is 2 minutes

This is up time since last restart, which can indicate why you have failure.

Bellow this information you can find information, why your device restarted/failed, which can help you in further troubleshooting:

System returned to ROM by unknown reload cause
